American Bully Growth Chart — Overview

The american bully growth chart varies significantly by class. A Pocket American Bully and an XXL American Bully follow completely different growth timelines and reach very different final sizes. Understanding your puppy’s class helps set accurate expectations for how big they will get and when.

American Bullies go through two distinct growth phases — height growth (driven by growth plate development) and body mass growth (muscle and bulk). Height typically stops between 12 and 16 months. Body mass continues developing for 6 to 12 months after that.

Pocket American Bully Growth Chart

Pocket American Bullies stand under 17 inches at the withers at maturity. Despite their compact size they carry the same heavy bone and muscular build as larger classes in a smaller frame.

Age Male Weight Female Weight Height Range
8 weeks 4–6 lbs 3–5 lbs 6–8 inches
3 months 10–15 lbs 8–12 lbs 9–11 inches
6 months 20–30 lbs 16–24 lbs 12–15 inches
12 months 28–40 lbs 22–32 lbs 14–17 inches
Full grown (18–24 mo) 30–50 lbs 25–40 lbs Under 17 inches

Standard American Bully Growth Chart

Standard American Bullies stand 17 to 20 inches for females and 17 to 20 inches for males at maturity. This is the original ABKC registered size class.

Age Male Weight Female Weight Height Range
8 weeks 6–10 lbs 5–8 lbs 7–10 inches
3 months 18–25 lbs 14–20 lbs 11–14 inches
6 months 40–60 lbs 32–48 lbs 14–17 inches
12 months 60–80 lbs 48–65 lbs 16–19 inches
Full grown (18–24 mo) 65–90 lbs 55–75 lbs 17–20 inches

XL American Bully Growth Chart

XL American Bullies stand over 20 inches at the withers for females and over 21 inches for males. They are the most popular class and take longer to fully mature than Standard or Pocket dogs.

Age Male Weight Female Weight Height Range
8 weeks 8–14 lbs 7–11 lbs 8–11 inches
3 months 22–35 lbs 18–28 lbs 12–15 inches
6 months 55–80 lbs 45–65 lbs 15–19 inches
12 months 85–110 lbs 70–90 lbs 19–22 inches
Full grown (18–24 mo) 90–130 lbs 75–105 lbs 20–23 inches

XXL American Bully Growth Chart

XXL American Bullies exceed the XL standard in height and are the heaviest class. They are the slowest to fully mature — do not judge an XXL’s final size until at least 24 months.

Age Male Weight Female Weight
8 weeks 10–16 lbs 8–13 lbs
3 months 28–42 lbs 22–34 lbs
6 months 65–95 lbs 52–75 lbs
12 months 100–130 lbs 80–105 lbs
Full grown (24–30 mo) 120–160 lbs 95–130 lbs

An American Bully at 12 months has usually reached full height but may only be at 70 to 80 percent of its adult body weight. Never judge a Bully’s final size at 12 months — wait until at least 18 months for accurate assessment.

Factors That Affect Growth Rate

Bloodlines

The single strongest predictor of final size is bloodline. XL bloodlines consistently produce larger dogs than Standard lines even within the same litter. At Majestic Bully Puppies every puppy comes from champion XL and XXL bloodlines — Razor Edge and Gottiline genetics known for consistent size and structure.

Nutrition

Proper diet during the first 18 months is critical for reaching genetic potential. Underfeeding stunts growth. Overfeeding causes rapid weight gain that stresses developing joints. See our American Bully Diet guide for exact feeding recommendations by age and size.

Exercise

Avoid high-impact exercise like running on hard surfaces or jumping before growth plates close — typically around 12 to 14 months. Premature high-impact activity can permanently affect bone development and final structure.
